AXIS ENERGY PROJECTS STARTS TANK TESTING ITS TENSION LEG BUOY™ 17/12/2019
Aberdeen’s Axis Energy Projects has undertaken tank testing of its technology at Edinburgh University’s FloWave facility.
The testing is part of a programme work that is being supported by the Department of Business, Energy & Industry Strategy (BEIS) via its Energy Entrepreneurs Fund to support the commercialisation of the Tension Leg Buoy™ technology. It is being developed for commercial deployment in the emerging Floating Offshore Wind sector.
The Tension Leg Buoy™ technology will offer a robust and mooring system that provides controlled stability, roll and pitch. It will comprise a subsurface buoy that supports the wind turbine. The buoy will be fixed, by tensioned tethers, to a modular gravity base anchor / foundation on the seabed.
Further testing of the Axis Tension Leg Buoy (TLB™) will be undertaken at the FloWave facility in the first quarter of 2020.
